The Parkinson’s Self Assessment Tool was designed by The Cure Parkinson’s Trust (CPT) and involved patients in the design and development of the Tool.
“The idea behind it is simple,” says Tom Isaacs, co-founder and President of CPT, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s over 15 years ago. “By people becoming more aware of their health, they become more interested and engaged in their condition. This, in turn, leads to a greater sense of control over your life which is a fundamental ingredient to being able to cope effectively with Parkinson's."
The Tool is designed to enable individuals to gain a better sense of the overall pattern of their Parkinson’s and how it affects day to day life. Using the Tool is very straightforward. Each participant is asked to identify an activity that they do every day and monitor it for up to two weeks leading up to their next appointment with their healthcare...

COGANE

Phytopharm is initiating a Phase II dose ranging and proof of concept study of Cogane™ (PYM50028). The study will investigate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of Cogane™ administered to approximately 400 patients with early stage Parkinson's disease for 28 weeks. The primary endpoint for the study will be the change in activities of daily living and motor function as measured by the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) Parts II and III. Other efficacy endpoints include assessment of cognitive function and quality of life.
The study will be conducted in leading movement disorder centres in the USA, UK, Canada, France and Germany. FDA approval has been received and patient enrolment is planned to begin in late 2010, with results of the trial expected in late 2012.

Funded by The Cure Parkinson's Trust, the research team from Queens Square will be recruiting 40 people with mild to moderate Parkinson’s from the London area to take part in this 12 month trial. Half of the participants will be randomly assigned to receive Exenatide and half will act as a comparison group. The researchers will carefully monitor symptoms in both groups and hope to show that Exenatide can slow the development of Parkinson's - something no current treatments can do.

MAKING EVERY APPOINTMENT COUNT - Patient Survey October 2009

New research findings reveal almost two thirds of people with Parkinson’s and their carers want more involvement in the management of their condition

The Cure Parkinson’s Trust launches a new resource to support people with Parkinson’s to take more control over their condition People with Parkinson’s (PwPs) and carers throughout the UK are calling for more involvement in the management of their condition, according to the findings of a survey launched today. The survey, conducted by The Cure Parkinson’s Trust, in collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline, reveals that almost two thirds of PwPs and carers would like to be more involved and play a greater role during their appointments. Many also feel that limited appointment times and the lack of support provided by the medical system do not allow them to discuss their concerns. The new survey, entitled “Making Every Appointment Count” was designed to generate...

Patient Forums

Patient Meetings 2010
