Message from Tom Isaccs, Co founder and President of The Cure Parkinson's Trust.....
I think it is hugely important that people with Parkinson’s are adequately represented at the WPC 2010 in Glasgow at the end of the month. Attendance, I accept, is not possible for everyone but I am anxious to ensure that those who have the capacity, the resources and the inclination, do come. Please forward this to as many people with Parkinson’s as you know and ask them to do the same. This is a crucial time in the delivery of new treatments and we, as the people living with the condition, must be involved in the process. To achieve this, it is imperative that we are seen and heard at conferences like this. Having been personally involved in the organisation of the Congress, I am confident that PwP’s who do invest the time and the money to go...

VIEW OUR SHORT FILM HERE

Tom Isaacs from The Cure Parkinson's Trust is on the steering committee organising the congress. The WPC 2010 is following on from the success of the first WPC in 2006 that attracted nearly 3,200 delegates from 56 countries.
The 2010 WPC will be an international, interdisciplinary forum showcasing the latest developments in the world of Parkinson's disease. The congress is open to people touched by Parkinson's, including researchers, physicians, physiotherapists, nurses, speech therapists, patients and caregivers. The programme covers medical and scientific research, education and training, best care initiatives and quality of life issues.

The Parkinson’s Self Assessment Tool was designed by The Cure Parkinson’s Trust (CPT) and involved patients in the design and development of the Tool.
“The idea behind it is simple,” says Tom Isaacs, co-founder and President of CPT, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s over 15 years ago. “By people becoming more aware of their health, they become more interested and engaged in their condition. This, in turn, leads to a greater sense of control over your life which is a fundamental ingredient to being able to cope effectively with Parkinson's."
The Tool is designed to enable individuals to gain a better sense of the overall pattern of their Parkinson’s and how it affects day to day life. Using the Tool is very straightforward. Each participant is asked to identify an activity that they do every day and monitor it for up to two weeks leading up to their next appointment with their healthcare...

COGANE

Phytopharm is initiating a Phase II dose ranging and proof of concept study of Cogane™ (PYM50028). The study will investigate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of Cogane™ administered to approximately 400 patients with early stage Parkinson's disease for 28 weeks. The primary endpoint for the study will be the change in activities of daily living and motor function as measured by the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) Parts II and III. Other efficacy endpoints include assessment of cognitive function and quality of life.
The study will be conducted in leading movement disorder centres in the USA, UK, Canada, France and Germany. FDA approval has been received and patient enrolment is planned to begin in late 2010, with results of the trial expected in late 2012.
If you would like further details on this study please email cptinfo@cureparkinsons.org.uk
