Following an engineering career in the Royal Air Force and subsequently at British Aerospace, David spent thirty years as a social welfare practitioner, principally in the voluntary sector. He retired as chief executive of Age Concern Gwent and has served in public life as an NHS board member and with executive responsibility for social services on Newport City Council. He also chaired the Newport Housing Commission.
David was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2007 and in retirement, champions the cause of The Cure Parkinsons Trust as a member of the Wales Neurological Alliance and the Cardiff BRAIN unit. He chairs the governors of Ysgol Gymraeg Cwm Gwyddon. David lives in Ystrad Mynach with his wife Yvonne and daughter Ffion.
