The Cure Parkinson’s Trust (CPT) is delighted to announce that friends and long term supporters from the Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland Committee led by Meriel Buxton and Toots Cowen have produced and printed a wonderful magazine called Cabbages and Kings to help raise funds for CPT’s research into a cure for Parkinson’s.

For many years the committee have run a full programme of annual fundraising events in support of CPT. Sadly, due to COVID-19, the committee were forced to cancel this year’s events but did not want this setback to diminish their efforts to help support CPT's research to find a cure for Parkinson’s.

The committee have produced and printed a magazine titled 'Cabbages and Kings' which includes features from writers such as best-selling author and CPT Patron Joanna Trollope OBE and TV writer, producer and comedian Paul Mayhew-Archer. With a foreword by author Terry Waite CBE, the magazine covers a range of topics from deep-sea diving to gardening, country house opera to the memories of a High Court Judge’s most interesting cases and the recollections of an ambassador and of a former Lord Lieutenant. A selection of photographs and drawings, as well as puzzles and challenges are also included in this hugely entertaining magazine. Meriel Buxton, from the Leicestershire Committee said.

“When we realised the problem, Toots Cowen and I discussed creating some form of book or magazine to sell. I already edit a six monthly magazine for a local society. We decided to adopt the same format, which I was used to producing, and go for a wide range of topics of general interest. Committee members, their family and friends contributed features and illustrations, I brought it together and we paid for printing costs with advertisements from supporters. Now all we have to do is keep selling it – every penny paid goes straight to The Cure Parkinson's Trust.”

Copies of the Cabbages and Kings magazine are £10 each (plus postage) with the money raised helping to support CPT’s pioneering programme of Parkinson’s research. If you would like to purchase a copy please click here. Alternatively, you can send a cheque payable to The Cure Parkinson’s Trust to the below address. Please include your full name, address and the reference 'Cabbages & Kings'.
