The Cure Parkinson’s Trust is delighted that the R S Macdonald Charitable Trust has awarded a grant to co-fund the continuing dopamine replacement stem cell research of Dr Tilo Kunath at the Medical Research Centre in Edinburgh. This research will streamline the process of developing human embryonic stem cells into dopamine neurons, and also act as a quality-control process. The research is critical to upcoming stem cell clinical trials in people with Parkinson’s – ensuring the highest quality cells are produced giving these trials the best chance of success at reversing the progression of the condition.
