At The Cure Parkinson's Trust we believe you should be able support the research you believe in most - giving you the assurance about exactly where your money is going. We will send you regular progress reports with information provided by the researchers conducting the project, so you can see the difference your support makes.

All our projects are thoroughly reviewed by our Research Committee according to the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) peer review guidelines, before being approved by our Board of Trustees, to ensure we commit ourselves to excellence.

If your Trust or Foundation is interested in making a donation towards one of our projects, please email Maisie or call 020 7487 3892 to find out more.

Projects we urgently need to secure funding for:

N-Aceytl Cysteine (NAC)

  • NAC is a readily available health supplement
  • In its clinical strength it is used to treat paracetamol overdose and to loosen thick mucus in conditions like Cystic Fibrosis
  • NAC works by increasing the levels of an amino acid called cysteine available to the brain, which in turn increases the amount of a major antioxidant called glutathione - this helps to reduce cell death by speeding up chemical reactions
  • Past research has shown that people with Parkinson's have reduced levels of glutathione - we hypothesise that by using NAC to increase these levels we can reduce cell death and slow down the progression of Parkinson's
  • This trial will be led by Professor Caroline Tanner and will take place across multiple centres in California, US.
  • *FUNDING STILL NEEDED FOR THIS TRIAL*  - if you would like more information or for your donation to be directed to the NAC trial, please email Maisie or call 020 7487 3892
