On the 30th September, the brave Emily Lochore took on an IronMan in Barcelona to raise funds for The Cure Parkinson’s Trust. She undertook this gruelling challenge for her stepfather Pat, who has lived with Parkinson's disease for 10 years. For those not familiar with an IronMan, it is often regarded as the toughest event on the planet. It consists of a 2.2 mile swim followed by a 112 mile cycle followed by a full marathon, all without a break! Emily’s herculean efforts have raised well over £14,000.00 for Parkinson’s research. You can sponsor her here.

She described the toughest hurdles as being experiencing intense cramp whilst swimming, the second lap of the bike ride where they had a fierce head wind to contend with and keeping up energy during the last half of the marathon. She completed the course in 12 hours, 50 minutes and 3 seconds which is an absolutely phenomenal achievement!

"The last 4 miles were really very emotional. The track was heavily lined with supporters all screaming your name and shouting the weeks strap line "YOU WILL BE AN IRON MAN"!!
What a buzz! I felt like I was flying home and just loved that last mile!!!!
Then on to the red carpet for the last 50 meters to hear “EMILY, YOU ARE AN IRON MAN”!!!" - Emily Lochore

The Cure Parkinson’s Trust would like to thank Emily for putting herself through such a tough challenge to raise funds and awareness for us. We could not be more proud to have her supporting us!
