On 11th April - World Parkinson's Day - Neil Benny, Charlotte Allen, Russ Bradford and Nina Jackson from Parkinson’s Concierge set off from Birmingham to London on a mission to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson’s research. Here is Neil’s story about their fantastic fundraising day:

“We were greeted with bemused looks by many passengers as we were dressed in Parkinson’s Concierge T-shirts and blue wigs. Our train tickets from Birmingham International to London Euston had been kindly donated by Virgin Trains and Nina was using her new lightweight wheelchair generously provided by CareCo. On arrival into London we ran into Alison Hammond of 'This Morning' TV fame who spent a lot of time chatting with us about Parkinson’s, and kindly letting us take her photo with us (pictured above).

After dropping off our luggage at our accommodation we set off to raise awareness of Parkinson’s through the streets of London (pictured below). We had our pictures taken with Brexit supporters and discussed medication supplies within the EU. We also had similar conversations outside the Houses of Parliament.

Following a quick lunch we met up with film producer Sen Monro and proceeded to the Devonshire barbershop where we were met by the lovely Olivia who was responsible for the main event of the day - our sponsored head shave! Just after 2pm, I sat in the hot seat and live on social media had my long curls cut with the clippers kindly supplied by Wahl. Russ then followed, supported by Charlotte and friend Sen, and also had a beard trim. Finally our third volunteer Nina who’s initial idea it was had her purple hair shorn. This resulted in jokes about looking like a blueberry as the dye was still on her scalp!

Our sponsored head shave raised over £1,200 for The Cure Parkinson’s Trust (CPT). Our supporters, to whom we would like to give thanks, are Astute, CareCo, Devonshire Barbers, DT Film Productions, Gripping Yarns Films, Wahl and Virgin Trains. A special thank you also to Sen Monro for the entertainment and to Olivia Frost who very kindly shaved our heads.”

CPT were delighted to have Parkinson’s Concierge recently join them as a charity partner in a bid to help raise funds and awareness of the need for more research into a cure for Parkinson’s. CPT would like to take this opportunity to thank Neil, Charlotte, Russ and Nina for their support and fantastic fundraising efforts.
