In a bid to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson’s research, team ‘Parkinson’s Power’ plan to take on the fantastic Wow Cyclothon challenge from the 25th – 29th June, cycling the entire 1,340km Icelandic border in less than 72 hours!

The team of nine family and friends from across the globe include Birgir Birgisson, Gary Boyle, Neil Connell, Susan Higgins, John MacPhee, Yvonne MacPhee, Snorri Már Snorrason, Patrick O’Shaughnessy and Sue Thompson. Team member John said:

“One of the team’s goals is to raise the profile of Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease. It is this shared desire to do “something” that binds us together as a team. There are many links and connections that have happened to get us to this place. Chance meetings and shared experiences have brought team members from Iceland, Ireland, Canada, Isle of Man and Scotland to form the ‘Parkinson’s Power’ team and we are proud to be raising funds for both The Cure Parkinson’s Trust and the Michael J Fox Foundation.”

To mark World Parkinson’s Day on the 11th April team members Birgir and Snorri will meet with the Icelandic President, Guðni Th.Jóhannesson to talk about Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease and their fundraising cycle challenge, in the hope of enticing the President to cycle for a short distance with the group!
